What are unit and system theories?

Unit Theory: focus is placed on individual units such as individual cells, molecules, DNA, genes, or specific pathways of disease. According to Western medicine, all diseases arise from individual units that are diseased. To cure the disease or handle its symptoms, individual units of healing are ingested, injected, inserted, or surgically modified.

System Theory: focus is placed on the synergistic or contrary relationships between units or other systems. System theory places the units of disease within specific systems. Any change in an overall system or within inter-related systems can cause a shift in the unit of disease leading to health and wellness.

The benefit of unit theory is that can be remarkably fast and powerful. If the disease truly is in one unit, treating that unit can lead to instantaneous cures. Symptoms can also be immediately rectified.

The problem with units is that if you choose the wrong unit to treat, there is no benefit to the patient. Also, a unit can be diseased in one location of the body but healthy in another. By treating the same unit everywhere in the body, this can cause secondary disease states.

The benefit to system theory is that treating a system often results in a longer period of relief. Also, you can cure problems without knowing their exact source. Furthermore, you can heal without side effects.

The problem with system theory is that it is slow -- sometimes very slow. Also, Western-minded people feel entitled to know the unit that is diseased in their bodies and eschew healing that cannot first explain the cause of their symptoms.
