Qi has two fundamental ways that is organizes in the universe:
It gets cold, quiescent, dark, and creates substance. We call this Yin.
It gets warm, active, functional, and bright. We call this Yang.
Yin and Yang are both Qi in a relative state. Yin easily becomes Yang and Yang easily returns to Yin. Yin is needed to make Yang and Yang is needed to make Yin. While this is true, Yin will also reduce Yang and Yang will also reduce Yin. When Yin and Yang combine in this way, they create more neutral energy. Since energy is called Qi, we simply call neutral energy that is neither hot nor cold: "Qi".
You see, Yin and Yang are simply the spectrum of how Qi operates. Some people call Yin: "Yin Qi" and call Yang: "Yang Qi". This is because even though we give Yin and Yang special names, they are simply Qi in a state that can always change back and forth at any given time.
Everything can be divided into Yin and Yang indefinitely. For instance, the substance of the heart organ is Yin. The beating is Yang. Inside the heart there is the Yin fibers and valves but also the Yang orifices and chamber spaces. Each valve is created of Yin substance. But their opening and closing action is Yang. And so on and so on.
